Grabbing my matte suede gray clutch, I make my way down the hall, following Silas’s voice. I double-check that I’ve got everything I need for the night—my ID, phone, and lipstick for touch-ups. Silas expressly forbade me from bringing any form of money, so I left the wallet behind. It still makes me uncomfortable to have the guys pay for me, but I’ve decided that’s not the hill I want to die on.

I stop at the mouth of the hall, taking in Silas’s back. Okay, ogling Silas’s back.

He’s dressed in a pair of black slacks—classic Silas—with a matching long-sleeved dress shirt tucked in at the waist. A dark grey belt and matching dress shoes complete the look.

Owen notices my presence, looking at me over Silas’s shoulder. An appreciative male grin takes over his face and Silas turns at Owen’s look, his face blanking. In my peripheral, I notice Flynn get up from the couch and inch closer, stopping before he gets within arm’s reach when Silas starts toward me.

“No. No fucking way,” Silas growls, his hand falling on my hips. “Nora, you can’t wear this out.”

My mood plummets. He doesn’t like the dress. Of course, he doesn’t like the dress. I look ridiculous, like I’m trying too hard. I’d be embarrassed to be seen out with me like this.

I force myself to meet his icy-blue gaze and give him an out, trying to keep the disappointment from leaking into my words. “If you’re having second thoughts about going out, we don’t have to.”

His grip tightens on me. “Stop fucking thinking you know what I’m feeling. You can’t wear that out because I’ll end up in jail before we even get to a table. The first guy that hits on you—and they will, believe me—I’m beating the shit out of. Every guy is going to be ogling you. They already do and this is going to make it ten thousand times worse.” Then, he turns to Owen, pinning him with an accusing glare. “You picked this, didn’t you?”

Owen’s face splits with an evil grin that gives me a glimpse at the bad boy side of him.

I gape at Owen. “Did you pick this just to torture him?”

I didn’t think he had it in him. Flynn, absolutely, but not Owen. He’s usually so serious and reserved.

Silas points at Owen. “I get to pick her outfit for your first date, dick.”

Flynn bursts out laughing at the exchange and I send a death glare his way. Which he rudely doesn’t even notice because he’s too busy cackling.

“How about I go change really quickly and then I pick my outfits for my dates from now on?” I interject before pointing my finger at the amused offender. “You’re now on my shit list, Picasso.”

His laughter cuts off almost comically and he looks at me like he’s stunned. “Me? I’m innocent!”

“You’re never innocent!” All three of us respond in unison.

Flynn feigns a look of hurt that quickly melts into a grin at Silas’s next words.
